As a child I lived near Gorey and accumulated a collection of little picture books signed by him. As a child I never knew what to make of them...they weren't anything like Calvin & Hobbes or The Far Side.
Until reading this I'd pretty much forgotten about them. I'll have to go pull them out to see if I understand them better as an adult.
If you’re ever “down the Cape” (Cape Cod, that is), visiting the Gorey house is worth your while! They have a very fun scavenger hunt based on the Gashleycrumb Tinies which was actually quite challenging.
